What is your role at PMX?
I’m an Investment Analyst in the Asset Management team, where my role combines research, portfolio construction and market communication. I spend much of my time assessing local and global investment strategies across a broad range of asset classes — understanding what each manager does, what makes them different, and whether they are likely to deliver good outcomes for our clients.
A key part of my role is then bringing those insights together: looking at how different strategies complement one another and how they can be combined into investment solutions with a clear purpose. I also prepare regular commentary on local and global market developments, helping explain what is happening in markets and why it matters for clients.
What attracted you to PMX?
PMX offered the opportunity to work with an exceptionally strong investment team and to contribute meaningfully to real investment decisions. I was drawn to the breadth of the role — from researching both local and global managers to helping build portfolios that solve practical investment challenges for clients.
I was also attracted to PMX’s investment philosophy. The team takes a rigorous, evidence-based approach, whilst also recognises that investing involves judgement, nuance and experience. That balance between the art and science of investing really appealed to me.
What keeps you motivated?
I’m motivated by the combination of investigation, problem-solving and communication. I enjoy getting under the bonnet of different strategies, understanding how managers think, what gives them an edge, and how that can translate into better portfolio decisions.
I also enjoy the people side of the role — taking complex investment ideas, market events or portfolio decisions and making them clear, relevant and understandable. There is always something new to learn, whether from managers, colleagues, clients or markets themselves.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active, whether that is going to the gym, running, hiking or spending time outdoors. I also enjoy playing board games, cooking, reading and getting out into nature or the bush whenever I can.
Most importantly, I enjoy spending quality time with my wife, family and friends.
